Today I try the new Herbert Adams Meat Pie, and as an experiment I cook one both ways as indicated on the back of the pack to see which one tastes the best… Microwave Versus Oven! Which one will win!?

  1. I agree that the oven pie would taste slightly better. However you have to weigh up the time it takes them to cook. Personally I'd rather wait 4 mins for a slightly less good pie then wait around for 40 mins. At the end of the day it's only a pie.

  2. Damn you GregO! Now I want a pie, don't care how, don't care if. Pie, pie, pie. I got meat pie, I got chicken and veg pie. Buried deep, deep in my chest freezer, break out the ice pick. Chip, chip, chip get those pies out. Wrap 'em in paper towels, blast the m'waves for 2.5 minutes, crack a frothy and enjoy the feast. Yeah, damn you GregO, so sleepy. Nighty night.

  3. The question on everyone's lips is, did you cook the microwave pie from frozen or thawed as that affects the cooking time and do you have a 1200 watt microwave as suggested on the back of the pack, also you cooked it at 100% when you were meant to cook it at 75% the oven pie is burnt on the bottom too.

  4. Greggo – I swear that you keep your pre-heated oven open for too long when you put stuff in there. You got to do a ninja move with the oven door – just bloody open it and slide your pie in then shut the door asap to stop the hot air getting out

  5. Sorry. Ignorant American, here… but your microwave is missing the turntable thingy. Is this common in standard microwaves?

I've never seen a microwave that lacks the turntable, that's why I had to ask.

  6. I love this idea for food reviews Greg. Microwave VS. Oven Series! Just a great new twist for your reviews! Hope you're doing well! Kelly :))

  7. Oven always beats microwave for these kind of things, but such a huge time difference!! I can never cook a frozen ice in the oven, i always seem to burn it before the filling is totally cooked lol

  8. Last few years I've been cooking pies in my air fryer. 20min cooking most times. Faster than a conventional oven and better than a microwave. Comes out nice and crispy.

  9. Make a homemade version that actually has mushrooms. If course use a premade crust because how the hell do you make a crust??

  10. Medium high is your stoned but not quite.

I prefer to make my own pies but that pie looks tempting to try. And wine infused beef sounds worth it. I use to infuse meats in wines and liqueurs for eating at work. Always fun to watch managers looking for the source of alcohol only to find people eating food and drinking anything but alcohol.

  11. Personally, to get the best of both without waiting 20/40+ minutes (as per oven instructions), I cook my pies in the microwave for about 2-3ish minutes while the oven is preheating, and then put them in the oven for a couple minutes to crisp up ^-^

  12. A good hack is to chuck it in the microwave for 3-4 minutes and then chuck it in the oven for 10-15 minutes.

  13. Greggo, you need to spin your food in that oven at half time. Wont have those burn marks on the back of your food. You're welcome.
