How to make an Apple Pie (Lattice Crust)



Everyone has their own way of making an apple pie….I’m just sharing the way I make MY own apple pie.

Some people like to stick to one type of apple when making an apple pie…but I like to use a variety from sweet to tart apples. It leaves the suspense in every bite you get a different flavor.

Recipe:

Pastry:
– 1 3/4 cup flour
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick of butter)
– 3 tablespoon vegetable oil
– 1/3 cup ice cold water

Apple Filling:

– 6 apples (Use 3 different types, medium sized)
– 1 tablespoon lemon juice
– pinch nutmeg
– pinch of salt
– 3/4 cup sugar
– 1 teaspoon cinnamon
– 2 tablespoon flour (if you are using larger apples, just add a little extra flour)

How to Make Peach Pie

What You’ll Need

Ingredients

1 pie crust, rolled out to fit a 9-inch pie plate* 4 cups fresh or 
frozen peaches, peeled and sliced* 4 tbsp flour
* 1 cup sugar
* 1 tbsp lemon juice
* 2 tbsp butter, chopped
* 2 tbsp milk or cream
* 1 tbsp sugar

Equipment

* 9-inch pie plate
* Mixing spoons
* Mixing bowl
* Pastry brush

1. Preheat oven to 425
° F (218° C).
2. Line the pie plate with the bottom crust, allowing the edges to hang over the sides.

3. Combine the flour and sugar in a bowl.

4. Add the peaches and lemon juice and mix well.

5. Place the filling in the bottom crust.

6. Scatter the butter on top of the peaches.

7. Place the top crust on the pie and crimp the top and bottom edges together.

8. Brush the top with of the pie with milk or cream and sprinkle with sugar.

9. Make several slits in the top of the pie for steam to escape. These can be straight or decorative.
10. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.

11. Reduce heat to 350
° F (176° C) and continue to bake an additional 45 minutes, until crust is browned and filling is bubbling. Stick a knife through one of the steam slits to make sure the peaches are soft and tender.

How To Make Homemade Apple Pie

Ingredients

* 1 pie crust, rolled out to fit a 9-inch pie plate
* 10-14 large 
apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced (about 12 cups)* 1 1/2 tbsp flour
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 1/2 tsp salt
* 1 tsp cinnamon
* 1/2 tsp nutmeg
* 2 tbsp butter, chopped
* 2 tbsp milk or cream
* 1 tbsp sugar mixed with 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon

Equipment

* 9-inch pie plate
* Mixing spoons
* Mixing bowl
* Pastry brush

1. Preheat oven to 425
° F (218° C).
2. Place the bottom crust in the pie plate. Pressing it into the bottom with your flour-covered fingertips.
3. Mix the flour, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt in a bowl.

4. Toss the apples in the sugar mixture.

5. Place the apples in the bottom crust, mounding the apples in the center.

6. Scatter the butter pieces on top of the apples.

7. Place the top crust on the pie then seal and crimp the edges.

8. Brush the top with of the pie with milk or cream and sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

9. Make several slits in the top of the pie for steam to escape.

10. Place the pie in the oven and bake for 10 minutes.

11. Reduce heat to 350
° F (176° C) and continue to bake an additional 50-60 minutes or until crust is browned and filling is bubbling. Insert a knife through one of the slits to make sure the apples are tender.

Recipes Using Cake Mixes #14: Easy Fresh Peach Cobbler



You can use peach pie filling for this, but using fresh peaches makes it soooo good!

seven small to medium ripe peaches, peeled, pitted and diced (I’m thinking that 8-10 would have been even better)
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ginger
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 18-ounce cake mix, yellow or your choice, unprepared
1 cup butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease 9 x 13 pan. In a medium saucepan, combine peaches, sugar, ginger and cornstarch. Bring to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Remove from stove. Pour peach mixture into prepared pan. Sprinkle dry cake mix over top. Drizzle butter over the cake mix. Bake for 1 hour or until top is lightly browned and peaches are bubbling. Serve with whipped or ice cream.
