Rustic French Apple Pie | Farm to Table Family | PBS Parents

Apple pie or pies in general are probably my favorite dessert. I LOVE a good apple pie! I learned how to make this super simple but amazingly tasty apple pie from Chef Susan Loomis in Paris. I’ll never forget how excited I was when I was making it and then even more excited when I tasted it!!! You can use all kinds of seasonal fruit like plums, cherries, peaches, apricots, nectarines. The crust is flaky, buttery, and it’s made in 10 seconds in a food processor!

1/4 pear sliced and pitted
1 1/2 c all purpose flour
1/4 tspn sea salt
12 tbspn unsalted chilled butter and cut into 12 pieces
1/3 c iced water

4-5 apples sliced and pitted
1 small egg
2 teaspoons water
1/3 cup sugar
2 tbspn all purpose flour

1. Preheat the over to 425F.
2. Put the flour and salt in food process and pulse once to mix.
3. Add butter and pulse about 6 times; the butter should still be in pieces. The mixture should look like coarse meal.
4. Add ice water (note: water should be super cold in ice) and pulse 8 times, just until the dough comes together. The butter should still be visible. Add a splash more of water if it’s dry.
5. On a lightly floured surface, gather the dough into a flat round.
6. Roll the pastry out into a rough circle larger than your pie dish. Move from the center out. Remember as you are rolling to lightly flour underneath the dough so that it does not stick.
7. Fill it gently into your pie pan leaving the pastry to hang over the edge of the plate.

1. Mix together 1/3 c. sugar and 2 tbspn flour. Sprinkle the bottom of the pastry in the pie pan with the sugar flour mixture.
2. Put a layer of the fruit slices and add more sugar flour mixture all over. Keep repeating until all the fruit and mixture is used.
3. Fold the edges of the pastry over the fruit.
4. Make the egg glaze by mixing an egg with a little water. Brush the dough with the egg glaze.
5. Sprinkle some sugar on top.
6. Bake for 35 min until golden brown.
7. Cool to room temperature and enjoy!

How to make Bread Pudding / apple pie with cheese ala mode 1of2

,,, hot dog buns for the bread part,, old school way of thinking is to use what you have got,,, put away the crock pots, it’s time to bake a bread pudding,, apple pie style with cheese a la mode (cinnamon and sugar is also a good choice),, old fashion country style, easy soul food recipe,, leave a comment, subscribe, pass it on, this is part one of two,, to be continued, enjoy,,, Oh!, and remember, do not bake two at once (they are so good you will eat to much),, do not pre heat the oven (use a water bath, you are cooking with eggs),, and do not taste test any of the ingredients (that sweetened condensed milk is so good, they will be none left for the pudding),, just saying,

Apple Pie Recipe: How to Make Apple Pie from Cookies Cupcakes and Cardio

Learn how to make a homemade apple pie in this tutorial were we show you how to make the apple pie filling and apple pie crust from scratch. This apple recipe is a great fall dessert and fun way to use up any extra apples you may have lying around.

See our blog post on this recipe here-

Items used in this apple pie recipe:

Apple Pie Pastry
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour (300g)
1 teaspoon salt (5mL)
1 teaspoon sugar (5mL)
1 cup of cold butter (240g)
1/4-1/2 cup cold water (60mL-120mL)

Apple Pie Filling
3 lbs apples, sliced, cored and peeled
2 tablespoons lemon juice (30mL)
1 teaspoon cinnamon (5mL)
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup granulated sugar (50g)

Egg Wash
1 egg yolk
1 tablespoon heavy cream (15mL)

Coarse sanding sugar for decoration

To make the pastry, combine and mix the flour, sugar and salt in a food processor. Add the butter and use the “pulse” button to combine. You will be looking for a coarse texture, with small pieces of butter. Add the cold water and continue to pulse until the dough combines. If it is dry, add more water a tablespoon at a time. Divide the dough in half and wrap in plastic wrap. Cool in fridge for 1 hour, or overnight.

When dough is chilled, roll out on a floured surface until 1/4″-1/8″ thick. Place into pie pan. Set into fridge if desired.

To make the filling, combine the apples, cinnamon, salt, sugar, nutmeg and lemon juice and mix to coat apples. Fill pie shell, piling up in the middle. Place in fridge again to keep cool.

Roll out second disc of dough to the same thickness and place over top of apples. Be sure to vent the crust by pricking it with a fork or knife. Mix together the egg wash and brush onto the pastry. Sprinkle with sanding sugar if desired.

Bake in preheated oven at 425F for 25 minutes. Lower temperature to 375F and continue to bake for 60-70 more minutes.

Allow to cool for 2-3 hours before slicing.
